The recent increase in Petroleum Prices by the interim Govt. has been criticized by different business associations including Rawalpindi Trader Association.
Some civil society members challenged this decision in Lahore High Court, arguing that Caretaker Government has no right to take this decision.
However, Govt. argued that the current devaluation of Pakistani Rupee against US Dollar and the increase in international oil prices have forced them to take this decision. The Price of POL products increase from PKR 5.92/- to PKR 7.53/-
It is worth mentioning here that Supreme Court has already taken up additional taxes on petroleum products through SUO MOTO notice in the public interest.
